I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Last week we had an apple awesome time, learning about Johnny Appleseed, making apple pies, and painting the seasons of apple trees! This week we will finish our apple study by exploring the inside of an apple and enjoying tasty treats!
This is the last week before fall break and it is parent-teacher conferences! Remember the schedule is on the wiki!
In reading we'll read the selection A Big Fish for Max. Our comprehension focus is main idea and details. The main idea of a story tells what it's mostly about. Our spelling skill is the /sh/ and /th/ sounds. These are found at the beginning and end of our words. In grammar this week students will be introduced to nouns. A noun is a word that names a person, place or thing.
In unit study we are finishing up our animal habitats study. This week we're focusing on the adaptations of forest and grassland animals. We'll review all the habitats and take our final animals test.
In math its super shape time. We'll begin with plane or 2D shapes. We'll sort foods by shapes, go on a shape hunt around the classroom, build shapes to investigate sides and corners, combine shapes to make new ones, and discover how to recognize what a shape looks like when it's flipped, slid, or turned.
