Last week was an eventful week!  We had intersession sign-ups, school pictures, and of course Grandparent's Day!!! Thursday we welcomed our grandparents into our class for lunch and made many great memories. Thank you for coming Grandparents!!!!

In language arts the students will be reading Animal Park.  It is a about a safari in the African Savanna.  The students will learn the words safari and band while reading.  A band refers to a group of animals.  The comprehension skill will be cause and effect.  The students will be given many opportunities to show their understanding of cause and effect relationships through various activities.

The grammar skill for this week will be a review of questions and statements.  The students will be welcome our friends "Paul the Period" and "Queenie the Question Mark" back into the classroom.  Paul and Queenie will help us remember how to punctuate statements and questions.

Our spelling skill this week is short u as in bump.  Check the spelling tab for this week's spelling words and high frequency words.

For unit study this week the students will be journeying to three of the six animal habitats we will be studying over the next two weeks.  Students will be creating an animal habitat poster. This week the students will take a closer look at the grasslands, the forest, and the tundra.

To build on the student's knowledge of living and nonliving things, animal classes, heredity, life cycles, and habitats, we will be taking a field trip to the zoo on Thursday.  Be sure to send your child in comfortable clothing and walking shoes.  Students will also need to bring a sack lunch as well as their booster seat.  If you are chaperoning, a note will go home on Wednesday with car arrangements, directions, and more field trip details.
