Hello Families,

This is a busy week for our classroom and for Campus School!

The Scholastic Book Fair is here. Our class will be shopping on Wednesday and Friday at 2:00. The entire family can shop at Family Night on February 28th from 6pm-8pm. During Family Night, everyone may dress as their favorite book character, participate in a character parade, and take funny pictures at the photo booth.
 
Our field trip to the Action News 5 weather room is this Thursday, February 28th. All students must bring a booster seat. We will return to school for lunch, so students will still have the option of purchasing school lunches. We will leave school around 9:45 and return around 11:30.
In the classroom:

The reading selection this week is Bad Dog Dodger! It is about a little boy's dream of having a dog and then realizing the responsibilities of having a dog! The story's vocabulary is adventure,   decision, wondered, exploring, and gasped. The spelling skill is silent consonants: kn, gn, wr, and mb. In the language arts the students will continue learning about adverbs.
              
This week in math the students will be studying different types of graphs. They will learn to identify, create, and interpret graphs.

In unit study will we be singing “Shake, Rattle, and Roll” as we discuss storm types.

Hello Families,
This week in reading the students will read Horace, Morace, and Mostly Delores. The comprehension focus will be author's purpose. Who likes PIE? Authors write to persuade, inform, or entertain. Last we learned about prefixes and this week our spelling skill is suffixes.

In unit study the students will continue learning about weather. The focus of this week will be types of precipitation and the water cycle. The key vocabulary will be condensation, precipitation, and evaporation.

We finished up our unit on measurement last week with a cumulative test over length, capacity, and weight. This week in math the students will be reviewing skills such as area, shapes, and addition and subtraction with regrouping.

Hello Families,

I hope you had a wonderful weekend! Last week we had a great time finishing Flyer Flew and Motion and Force!

This week in the classroom:

In language arts the reading selection is One Dark Night with the comprehension skill being fact and opinion. The story vocabulary is stray, brooding, pound, and nudge. We have finished our unit on adjectives and will begin adverbs! The spelling skill is prefixes!

In math we are continuing our measurement unit and the students will be exploring capacity. We will begin by reading Room for Ripley and then the students will compare the different units of capacity. They will also hear a wonderful story about The Land of Gala! Ask your child to share it with you!

In unit study we are beginning weather! We are starting with the different tools used for different kinds of weather!

Hello Families,

I hope everyone is enjoying there week!

This week in the classroom:
In reading the students will finish reading The Flyer Flew. The comprehension skills we will be focusing on are main idea and problem and solution. The vocabulary words to know are steady, veer, whip, blustery, dune, and gust. On Friday, the students will take a comprehension and vocabulary assessment over The Flyer Flew. Our spelling skill is oi and oy.

The second graders will continue learning about force and motion in unit study. On Monday the students will be introduced to gravity and friction. Later in the week the students will explore magnets by finding items that are magnetic and nonmagnetic. Then students will discover that magnets have poles and that opposite poles attract.

Our measurement with length will conclude Tuesday in math. The students will show what they know about perimeter, area, and measuring in both metric and customary length. Beginning on Wednesday we will start learning about weight. First the students will weigh objects in ounces and pounds then grams and kilograms.
Friday is Intersession Family Gathering!!!
