Hello Families,

This week in the classroom we are back on track!

In language arts the students are reading, Just Like Josh Gibson, a story about a little girl with the dream of playing baseball. In spelling the students are getting ready for the Redbirds game with baseball words. The comprehension skill is fact and opinion. In writing the students are finishing a writing project about two of their favorite biomes.

In unit study the students will be presenting their endangered animal and sharing with the class all of the wonderful facts they learned.

In math the students will be practicing adding three digits.

We will be ending  the week with Spring Fling!

TCAP WEEK!!

Hello Families,

TCAP week has arrived! Thank you all so much for all the treats you brought in for the students!

Here is the schedule for the week:

Mornings:

Students will take their SAT-10 standaridized tests this week. Testing will begin at 8:30 and we will be finished before lunch.
Tuesday: Word Study and Vocabulary
Wednesday: Reading Comprehension
Thursday: Math
Friday: Language

Afternoons:
 
Tuesday: Movie
Wednesday: Books and Blankets
Thursday: Art Day!
Friday: Board Games
 
The students will have support from 12:45-1:20
Tues: Media  Wed: PE  Thurs: Music  Fri: Art

Hello Families,

Last week the students had a wonderful time reading Andrew Lost and sharing in his journeys! They have created a pocket guide for all the plants and animals Andrew, Thudd, and Judy came across.

This week in the classroom:

We are going to continue reading Andrew Lost and exploring the plants and animals found in the Australian Rainforest! The vocabulary words are deserted, velvety, hologram, hustle, quivered, scrambled, crept, marsupial, thicket, trudge, plodded, lurched, and beamed. The comprehension skill is problem and solution! There are no spelling words this week!!

In math the students will be working in intervention groups! (Monday-measurement, Wednesday- regrouping, and Friday-money and time.) The students have also been meeting with our GA, Ms. Crunk, and reviewing multiplication, math facts, writing, and grammar.

In unit study we will be wrapping up our study of biomes by traveling to the grasslands!! Also this week the ThinkShow project is coming home! The students will be researching an endangered animal! Visit the wiki for websties to help with the research!

Hello Families,

I hope you are enjoying the beautiful weather!!
In the classroom this week:

In language arts the students are reading a Andrew Lost! A wonderful novel about the adventures of Andrew, Judy, and their robot Thudd! The travel through an Australian Rain Forest!
The vocabulary words are transparent, spawn, cluster, and vegetarian. The comprehension skills are character, setting and plot and problem and solution.  The spelling words for the week are the vocabulary words in the novel.
In math the students will be learning about time! The goal for the students identify elapsed time and comparing time! Who can sing the song...the parts of the clock....?

In unit study we will continue our adventures through the biomes! The goal for this week is to continue the land biomes! Can you remember all the different ones? If you want extra practice you can explore this blog...http://beyondthebiome.blogspot.com/ !

Hello Families,

I cannot believe it is APRIL! Your children only have two more months until they are third graders! The next two months are busy and full of learning so please continue to remind  your children to be the three R's!

In the classroom this week:

In language arts the students are reading a Gail Gibbon's book, Frogs. The vocabulary words are transparent, spawn, cluster, and vegetarian. The comprehension skills are fact and opinion and compare and contrast. The spelling skill is -ture and -tion!

In math the students will be learning about time! The goal is for the students to read a clock to the hour, half-hour, and five minute. Who can sing the song...the parts of the clock....?

In unit study we will continue our adventures through the biomes! The goal for this week is to discuss the land biomes! Can you remember all the different ones? If you want extra practice you can explore this blog...http://beyondthebiome.blogspot.com/ !
