We read Dex: The Heart of a Hero and the discussed STAMINA! The goal for the week was 4 minutes! They went beyond the goal to 5 minutes. For five minutes the students followed the expectations of staying in one spot, reading the whole time, keeping their eyes on their book, and demonstrating IPICK. Problem Solving!

The students are doing a great job transition into first grade. Thank you for all of the support and encouragement you give to your children daily. Your love gets them through the (sometimes) long days at school. This week the life skill is problem solving. We will be discussing ways to solve problems socially, emotionally, and academically. Below is chart I will introduce to the students. I will also read a few books that pertain to problem solving. We will discuss two a day and then review on Friday. A choice that is not on the chart but something the students can always do is Talk to an Adult!

The Week Ahead!

Hello First Grade Families,

Friday was a big day in our classroom!!! We enjoyed a Mystery Reader with Pete the Cat, celebrated a birthday, and Zero the Hero came. He brought everyone two chocolate chip cookies! It was a great energy-filled day.

This week in the classroom the students will be reading a great story about a BIG BLUE OX! The past few weeks the students have been learning about characters and this week we will focus on both character and setting.

In spelling we will continue learning about short vowels. Addie and Iggy have been a great help learning about short -a and short -i and a new friend will join our class to help us with short o!! In addition to our letter friends sentence friends will also join our classroom.

In math the students will be introduced to the ten frame. This is one of many, math strategies to help learn the basic math facts. This week we will use it for making ten.

It is going to be a great week!!!

Campus Tiger Pride

Hello Families,

Last week the students finished learning about the respectful, responsible, and ready. We read Curious George Saves His Pennies for responsibility and Froggy Goes to School for ready. They did a wonderful job doing the promise during Family Gathering! One activity the students really enjoyed was the wrinkled heart. We read Chrysanthemum and every time someone was anger we crumpled up the heart. Then after the story we put Band-Aids with kind words on them and placed them on the heart. Hopefully, the students were able to understand how impactful our words are.
(This is not ours but its similar)

This week we will continue going through procedures and routines. We will also discuss CAMPUS TIGER PRIDE, Campus School's life skills. Our life skills are the backbone of the expectations for behavior. Each Family Gathering a class will do a presentation demonstrating the life skills. This week is the "C" for cooperation. All week we will discuss the meaning of cooperation and how to display it in the classroom.

It is going to be a great week!
